Clergy and Staff

The Reverend Timothy A. R. Cole, Rector

The Rev. Timothy Cole was ordained in the Scottish Episcopal Church, from which our American Episcopal church has grown. The son of a priest, Tim earned degrees from Aberdeen University, Edinburgh University, and Cardiff University, and began his professional path with a decade of parish ministry. He served as curate at Holy Trinity Church in Dunfermline, then vice provost of St. Andrew's Cathedral in Inverness, and finally as Rector of St. Michael and All Saints in Edinburgh. His next call was to join the Royal Army Chaplains Department, where he has served for 20 years in positions of increasing seniority, with a variety of garrison churches (the military base equivalent of parish churches), and with units deployed to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Sierra Leone, Iraq (where he was the British Senior Force Chaplain), and Afghanistan (where he was the Theatre and Joint Force Senior Chaplain). Most recently, Tim served as Assistant Chaplain General for the 3rd United Kingdom Division, leading 33 chaplains in five brigade teams. He was made an Honorary Chaplain to the Queen in 2014.

Drawn back to a more traditional parish ministry, Tim bring to Christ Church the depth of his experience with young people and families, a dedication to pastoral care and community building through outreach and prayer, and a joy in the traditional liturgies and commitment to scripture. He is married to Lorraine and they have two children. Tim can be reached at rector@christchurchgeorgetown.org or 202-333-6677.
