Christ Church Georgetown’s Homeless and Housing Ministry provides hands on ways to help meet physical needs for food, clothing, and shelter to our local homeless community. Below are listed individual ministry opportunities in this area:

MOBILE SOUP KITCHEN

Volunteer to prepare food in the Parish Hall or ride in the Salvation Army Truck serving the homeless of our City. Cooks arrive at 5:30 pm-6:30pm to prepare food, and truck volunteers work from 6:45pm-8:30 pm serving the homeless face to face, on the first and third Sundays and Mondays of every month. Please contact Amy Mathes, Mission Program Assistant, to sign up for a shift.

GEORGETOWN MINISTRIES CENTER HOMELESS SHELTER

Christ Church is a founding member of the Georgetown Ministries Center. The Homeless Center is hosted in the Parish Hall for two weeks in November and February. Serve the homeless in hospitality and kindness by preparing and joining in a meal together. Or sleep over at the shelter with the residents. Christ Church Georgetown will host the fall shelter from Sunday, November 15 through Sunday, November 29 2009. 

SO OTHERS MAY EAT (S.O.M.E.)

Every month with a 5th Tuesday Christ Church parishioners prepare breakfast at S.O.M.E. an interfaith service agency that cares for the homeless and extremely poor residents of Washington, D.C. Check in at Christ Church at 6:00 am, car pool together to S.O.M.E. to serve and cook breakfast. You will be back by 9:00 am at Christ Church.

HELP THE HOMELESS WALK-A-THON

Help plan this Sunday school educational opportunity for the youth of our parish to fundraise for homeless in our community. Join this annual walk held in the fall in conjunction with the Fannie Mae Foundation on the National Mall.
