Christ Church, Georgetown, is a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. As such it is a corporation governed by a board known as the Vestry. The Rector is a member of the Vesty and serves as its presiding officer. The Vestry also includes two Wardens and 12 Vestry members. Wardens serve two-year terms and Vestry members serve three-year terms. The parish bylaws provide for an Annual Parish Meeting on the first Sunday of February. At that time one Warden and three Vestry Members are elected from a slate put forward by the Nominating Committee along with any nominations that might be made from the floor.
The Vestry is responsible for all of the temporal affairs of the parish. It meets monthly, except in July and August, usually on the third Tuesday of the month. Various Vestry committees carry out the mission and ministry of the parish under the general oversight of the Vestry. The Vestry elects lay delegates to the annual Diocesan Convention convened by the Bishop. Measures enacted at the Diocesan Convention must be separately approved by lay and clergy delegates. The parish clergy canonically resident in the diocese serve among the clergy delegates.
